I ordered my Lyon card over the internet and picked it up at Place Bellecour. Rachel gave great advice and brochures about what we could do with the Lyon card. it was great to just show or scan the card for activities. There was no searching for money, I just showed the card and was admitted to the activity. I used the card for the metro with no problem. I was able to do the Lyon city bus tour, ride the tram, visit two museums, and use public transportation in a two day period. the Lyon card is fantastic way to see the city. I would buy the card again if I visited Lyon which is a beautiful city.

Lyon is an amazing city and there is so much to see and do. The Lyon Tourist office are extremely helpful and provides all the information you need to make your visit worthwhile. I bought a 3 day City Card which is great value for money and with it I travelled all around Lyon, visited several museums and went on this guided tour of the Croix-Rousse and La Maison des Canuts. This was very enjoyable and informative guided tour, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The visit to La Maison des Canuts included a demonstration of silk weaving on an original loom which is fascinating and ended with us descending via the Traboules. I would really recommend this guided tour. It should be noted that it does include descending via quite a number of stairs, so would not be accessible for everyone.

Plus points:
Many venues (the most important) and events covered in the card are free of charge. Obviously, the more you see and do, the more the card justifies its cost.
Very important - card allows you to jump long queues in many places. This alone almost makes it worth it, especially on weekends and school holiday periods which can be very busy.
We didn't use public transport, so cannot comment. But bus and underground transport appears to be free. Surely a good deal.

Minus point: If you are collecting the card at one of their collection points it can be a bit complicated. First, to get there, Second, your name is not enough. They will want the confirmation email with QR code which will mean connecting to internet. Best to save on phone or print it.
Better, of course, to book cards far enough ahead of time to get them by post, if possible.

A Great Way to See Lyon

Recommended by ,

100%

The fascinating city of Lyon has so much to see and places to visit not all of which are within easy walking distance of each other, and whilst both transport charges and entry fees are modest the cost quickly mounts, as does the need for currency.
Fortunately Lyon has two great additional assets, firstly a truly excellent transport system, be it the Metro, the trams or buses. The second is the Lyon City Card which is available to use on all of those forms of transport and for entry into most of the museums and galleries. The card really does add to the visitor experience, allowing the visitor to move around the city at will and to take in museums that they might not otherwise visit.
The Lyon City Card is a bargain unless of course you just want to sit in the hotel or a bar all day.

We bought the 4-day card for its offered services, especially Velo'v, but on day 2 experienced trouble using it on day 2 for Velo'v, and had to make a separate trip to the office. There we were told that Velo'v is currently unavailable due to a systems change. We bought a 4-day pass so we could use the metro on our last morning, but it did not work then, so we had to buy metro tickets for a couple of trips the last morning. Otherwise, the card worked fine at museums.

We found the card very useful, especially the public transport included. We recommend the walking tour of Old Lyon. Hafid at the information centre was very friendly and helpful.
Our suggestions for improvements would be to be able to claim back the cost of the train journey we first had to make to get into the city to buy the card. Also it would be great if the period that the public transport was valid was the same as the museum entries - i.e. based on a 24hour period rather than a calendar day.

We bought the 4 day card which included the airport transfer ( Rhone express). The card included the use of all types of public transport plus free entries into many attractions. Very much value for money. My only disappointment was the Fourviere rooftop guided tour as we were told that this is only done in French. We still went but unfortunately, not being fluent in the language, did not understand much. And even though the tour guide spoke English, she did not try to explain anything to us in the 1 and a half hours we were with her. It is a lovely attraction and I think that foreigners not speaking French would be interested in taking the tour if in a language they can understand.

Disappointing!...Not like the "Paris Pass"

Recommended by ,

The Lyon City Card helps to make things convenient, but I'm not sure it is worth the cost. To get your money's worth you really need to see and do many things. My biggest dissatisfaction was that 2 of the most important activities that are listed in the Lyon City Card promotion are NOT possible. The City of Lyon needs to remove from the promotion of the card that it can be used for the "Notre Dame Roof tour" and the "City Boat tour." We tried to go to both of these very early and they were full. They are always full because paying customers always have priority. Then, there are no City Card spots left. Therefore, it completely wastes your holiday time while you wait for 1 hour for the event. Then, only at the last minute you are told that they have no room. There is no way to reserve a spot on line or in person. You only wait to see if the tour is full and it always it. We went at the end of September so it was not even peak travel season.
The solution is simple... They need to stop promoting that the City Card gets you access to the Roof top tour and the City Boat tours.

Réponse d'ONLYLYON Tourisme
Lyon city card offers the access on 38 attractions - The Best of are: cruises ,guided tours , roof top tour and more...
We cannot garantee the access on attractions on availabilities but for the roof top we advise to be at the meeting point 20 - 30 minutes before the tour.
For the boat tour you can go at the "embarcadère" in the morning and book a tour for the afternoon

You can order your cards online, win money on the special offer web and choice for a delivery at home like this you just arrive your card ready to use :)

When we arrived in Lyon we didn't have many plans other then to wander around the city. After recieving a map from the hotel I noticed many attractions had Lyon City Pass next to them. After an incredibly helpful visit with Rachael from the tourism office, we had a solid 2 day plan to see and experience many of the sights of Lyon. The pass more then paid for itself with unlimited access to museums, a guided tour, a guided bus tour, a guided tram tour, and transit access. The next time we are in Lyon I will 100% purchase the pass to use again.

The Lyon Card is an excellent way to explore this beautiful city from its Roman ruins and the medieval streets of the old city to its ultra modern Museum of the Confluence. Lyon is a city that offers a broad range of experiences that should satisfy the most demanding or most jaded of travelers. The transport system enables the visiter to discover the city by bus, metro trains, trams and funicular and everything is in easy reach. The concerts on offer by Opera Lyon are amazing as is the cities varied cuisine. Two days were only enough to whet my appetite and I'll return soon.

Found the card great value. A couple of comments, why is it not sold at T1 at Lyon Airport? And we would have appreciated the travel running the same 72 hours as the attractions. It would have been useful to be able to book the boat trips at the Tourist Office. Basilica rooftop tour was amazing - could you describe this better? Really enjoyed walking tour with Catherine, her knowledge and English were excellent. Finally, we enjoyed a lot of good meals in Lyon, could you not get some restaurants on board with discounts?

We bought the Lyon 4 day pass, which enabled us not only to visit the museums we were interested in, but also to take a walking tour, take the little tram, and to go on a boat ride. Staying in the Confluence area meant we used public transport, which was included, and also the little Vaporetto boat which was extremely useful, as well as being a delightful way to get from one end of the city to the other. The walking tour of the old town took us through the traboules, which we would simply not have found without our guide. The little tram which was included took us up to the croix rousse district, which we would not have had the energy, or knowledge, to explore as it is up such steep hills. The boat ride took us out of the city around the ile de barbe and showed us yet another part of Lyon. We visited the fabulous architecture of the confluence museum and the resistance museum, all included in the pass. After four days, we felt as if we had a real feeling for the city and the ease with which we could get around. This pass was a recommendation from some friends we met who were also traveling, and it has certainly saved us money, as well as providing an easy way to get around. The inclusions far outstrip the number of things you can do in the time, meaning that there is plenty of choice for everyone to pick their own interests. I would definitely recommend the City Pass to any other first (and second) time visitors interesting in seeing as much as possible.

I had a 3-day Lyon City Card and it was well worth it. Unlimited public transport and free access to the museums were great. With a pass you don't mind popping into a museum just to see the highlights and then moving on to another, or hopping onto a bus or tram for a stop or two. The Lyon City Tram through Vieux Lyon and the boat ride were wonderful, and without the City Card I might not have gone on them. I also got the Rhone Express tickets at a reduced price, which made things easier. The biggest difficulty was actually finding the Welcome Desk at the airport to pick it all up. We did not break even on the purchase of the card because we stayed on Presqu'île and walked everywhere (used public transportation only once), spending more time afoot exploring the city than in museums (averaged less than a museum a day over our week stay in Lyon). For those who take the tours, use public transportation, and go to two or more museums per day (especially heading to the more dispersed museums practically accessible only by public transportation), this card can be a great deal. For those who do more on their own on foot the card might not pay for itself (but it is still very convenient). Also, be aware of the fine print--the card is good for only one admission per museum, so for major museums (e.g., Musée des Beaux-Arts, Musée des Confluences) be sure to schedule arrival in time to cover the entire museum in one visit in one day before closing time.

The Lyon City Card was totally worth it: easy to use and great benefits.

My one critique is to make sure all policies/offers for the card are consistent across all platforms. For example, the booklet for the card advertised the City Bus as discounted, but the driver's manual said it was free with the Lyon City Card. Also, we couldn't find the tram or the tram stop, and it was unclear if it was included with the card.

Other than that, we thought the card was definitely worth it!

We appreciated the convenience and value of the Lyon City Card. The transit pass feature allowed unlimited access to the city’s metro and funiculars which took us everywhere we wanted to go. We also took a walking tour, boat cruise, and visited two museums gratis thanks to the card. Highly recommended for a first time traveler to Lyon.

We bought the 4-day Lyon City Card. We used it to enjoy guided walking tour of Vieux-Lyon, Lyon City Boat ride, and City Tram to Croix-Rousse. These activities gave us an insight to Lyon. We also utilized it to visit several museums. I think all tourists exploring Lyon on their own should get one.

This card made it very easy to use all the transport available in the city. We purchased a 2 day pass for our family of 3 and we used it several times on the funicular and metro and it was very easy to use, purchase online and pickup once we arrived for our first visit to the city. I would definitely get it when we visit lovely Lyon again!

IF you really want to see the most of what Lyon has to offer, this card is value for money. You get unlimited access to public transports, guided tour to the old city, tour with tram to the neighborhood called Red cross ( Croix Rouge ), a guided tour with the boat and of course free access to all the museums, to some of them you have priority access too. We bought one card each for three days. Each card costed 45 euros but we visited 8 museums, did the guided tour, the boat tour and the tram tour and of course we got the bus, metro, tram many times. We had a complete experience which, otherwise and without the city card woyld cost a lot more money. I highly recommend thiw card for everyone who really is in the mood to explore this city.

I purchased the 2 day Lyon card that included a return journey on the Rhone Express airport link. As I planned to visit many museums during my two day visit I was able to save money, especially as it included a return journey on the Rhone Express airport link. I also enjoyed using the card for one free river cruise and a trip on the mini tram. I do not think I would have done these attractions in they were not included in the card but I enjoyed both experiences.

From the new and excellent website, to the friendly and efficient tourist office and the excellent Go Lyon card everything is a good as you would hope and need. In a way knowing you can have ‘free’ entrance to so many museums and other excursions spurs you on to visit more perhaps than if you paid as you went. I have to say Lyon is as well organised for the tourist as any city I have seen, and I have visited 27 cities in Europe in the last year alone!

Wonderfully informative and entertaining tour of Old Lyon

We joined Delphine on a tour of Old Lyon in early May and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Her commentary was very interesting and informative; we had already spend a couple of days in Old Lyon and thought we had read and learned quite a bit. But her commentary was insightful and full of new information, from how church buildings are maintained and paid for in France today, how historic restorations have changed over the years, and more. We very much recommend such tours from the Tourist information office. in Lyon. We also stopped at the office a couple of times for information, and each time the service was quick, professional and very helpful. Also, we had a 4 day Lyon City card, which we used for several museums, this tour, a boat tour and for transportation. It was invaluable.

The personnel at Place de Bellcour were less friendly, not informative & not willing to help in tour booking.

We were not pleased with this service as we were on a bus that broke down and then the next day we tried the tour again and there were only 2 buses and they were late coming to pick us up for the hop on hop off service tour. We waited 2 hours at one stop, then 1-1/2 at another, which ate up the day much too fast. We felt sorry for the drivers in their frustration with underperforming equipment, breaking buses, sign on systems not working. We felt their stress and anxiety in trying to please us while being given poor tools to do so. You should be able to buy a City Card for your full vacation, not just 3 days, as some things were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and our card expired before we could take advantage of them. For the price it was very dissapointing. The concept is good. We loved the Train from the airport to town, and we loved the subways.

Start using it early in the day

Recommended by ,

The Lyon City Card is really great for touring the city of Lyon. However, it is sold as a 1 day, 2 day, or 3 day pass. The instructions with the card indicate that a 1 day pass is actually 24 hours, and is activated upon first use. In my experience, this is incorrect. Mine stopped working (at least for public transit) well before 24 hours. I purchased the card at approximately 11 am on a Saturday, and used it for the first time just before noon. I tried to use it in the morning before 9 am the next day on the bus and it didn't work (and the time changed overnight to the equivalent of daylight savings time for Americans, so it was actually at least 4 hours short of 24 hours from first use). I figured I would use it for the bus because the bus stops don't have the kiosks to purchase ride tickets like the tram and train stations do, and I didn't carry any cash as an American not wishing to have to exchange for Euros, and I wanted to get to a train station where I could purchase transport later. While this isn't a deal breaker, and it is still a very useful card, it is definitely not a positive experience to expect it to work 24 hours according to the instructions, but it doesn't. In other words, if you purchase a City Card, expect it to work only on the day you purchase it, so get going early in the morning to get the most out of it.

We got the Lyon card for 3 days including Rhônexpress. Ordered and paid online in the morning and picked them up at the desk in the airport in the afternoon. Return to the airport does NOT have to be in the 3 days which is very good. Using the card was easy both on public transport (excellent connections, we used metro and trams) and at museums. As we were in Lyon in January, we knew that we’d be spending a lot of the time indoors. I don’t know if we’d have got value for money in the summer, when it’s nicer to be outside. I did not have to buy any tickets to get into the museum and the train.
It is easy for me to get up the high hill and the confluence museum in a day.
You can see the newest building and information in that museum and the oldest structure created by Roman with the green building of the museum for it.
Finally, you can shopping around the confluence stop and eat the Bouchon bistro in the old city area.

We really got our money's worth from this card. Very very convenience to be able to use it on public transport as well as all the museums etc. My only criticism was that we tried to do an open top bus tour of Lyon and found that it was not free, which was quite surprising because the city tram we had to used the previous day was free. The bus driver did say to us that his tour was not free 'yet', so maybe there are plans to include in the future!

We have used the card for one day. Tram, museum and boat. Cheap and convenient.
We added 3 euro to rent a citybike for three days. It is a very good system only we did not know that everybday we rented a bike we would pay 150 euro in advance and receive this amount back after a week. We would have liked to know this. We understood that you should reserve a bike on the internet to prevent this payment.

I thought the city card was quite good value. A decent amount of museums, tours and places to visit included.

Note that the travel runs for 2 calendar days once activated and the attractions runs for 48 hours once started so if you want to start in the afternoon your travel would only last for the rest of the day but the attractions would last until the next afternoon.

Lyon is full of wonderful museums, especially on the Presqu'ile and in Vieux Lyon, and we managed to see a good number in our 2½ day stay, despite an afternoon of rain. Having pre-ordered the Cards (at a discount!) this made the transition from Part-Dieu station to the hotel easy. Having the Card made getting to the Musée des Confluences by metro and tram easy; and on the Funiculars up to the Roman Museum and Fourvière. Getting into the Contemporary Art Museum free was a real bonus - only offset by the absence of the local trolleybuses back - they were cancelled because of the Great Lyon Run (which dates out visit!).

My wife and I bought the City Card online before our arrival in Lyon. Our understanding was that it was good for 24 hours beginning with the first use. We arrived in the afternoon and used it twice in the metro. The next morning it would not work in the metro. In addition, it was not useful for museums because most museums were free that day. So we did not find the card worth the cost.

Transportation is valid for 1,2 or 3 consecutive days and attractions on 24h, 48h or 72h00
Only the 6 public museums are free once a year for a special weekend " journee du patrimoine" but the other 17 museums and attractions like boat trip, guided tours.... included on the city card are not free of charge.

I find Lyon is a tourist-friendly city, and the Lyon City Card is one of the City's great offer to tourists. It covers many major tourist or sightseeing places with transportation, which I find very convenient as I did not have to pay each time at each location. It is easy to budget expenses too. What a lovely city, and I really enjoyed my one-week stay in Lyon, and I will definitely go back!

The card was great and allowed us to use the public transport (metro mostly). We were able to go to museums and tours as part of the card which saved money. However, there was a doors open day on one of the days we had the card, so all museums were free. This meant we didn't need a 3-day card and actually might have been better off without the 3-day card.
Biggest disappointment was that we could not get the cards to work with the bike rental, Velov, system. I was charged the cost of 3-day bike rental, but then my purchase was never recognised by the rental stations. I had to buy a normal ticket so the bikes worked. I basically lost money and then spent double in order to get the bike system to work. Very disappointed about that as otherwise the card was great for transport purposes.
I think it'd be better if the card was 72hrs, like in some other cities, to encourage long-weekend visits more. 3-days means that a Thursday to Sunday trip (72 hrs or 3 nights) always loses out. 72hrs would encourage more tourism and mean that short weekend breaks get more out of the city! I would not automatically recommend the card for friends, as I found out that we would have been better off without it.

In September 2017 we spent four days in Lyon, travelling by train; we began with the tourist office, where we acquired a Lyon Citycard and portable wifi receiver; we rented an apartment at Bellecour - large, spacious, well equipped, and spotless; we used La Fourchette to choose restaurants, every one of which was excellent; we had a list of Lyon attractions to visit, we didn't make it to all of them, but we very much enjoyed what we did; our Citycards took us on a river cruise, on the funicular to the basilica; we rode the tourist train around the city, and we gasped at the Mer des Canuts; we loved the Musée des Beaux Arts; and we got around with the Metro.
The gastronomy is the heartbeat of Lyon, we ate only at restaurants serving food in the local tradition, and every one was a delicious discovery, with their intimate associate, the wines of the region
we had a delightful holiday, discovering a few of the wonders of Lyon, and we will return

Lyon city card - great buy

Convenient card, I bought the one with the Airport return included, which made life much simpler (buy at the Airport). The return airport journey is a separate card so you don't have to stick to the 1, 2 or 3 day limit of the City Card (this info is hard to come by on the internet).

Information on the website could be clearer; the attraction pass part of the card is valid 24, 48 or 72 hours from your first visit to an attraction (write down the time when you first use it so you know when it ends). The travel part of the card (use on bus, tram, metro) is valid until 00:30 on the last valid day of use.

Links to which boat trips and time details could be explained better on the website too. Otherwise, you have to go there, choose 1 of the 4 options and then ask the times for the boat trip you've chosen.

As a visitor the card is a great idea, makes life easy. Just touch in on the metro, bus or tram for each trip and hand over at the ticket counters of the various attractions (lots are free passes) for them to scan and issue you a ticket.

The other thing to note, you're suppose to write your name on the paper info card they give you too when you buy the card. I never did, couldn't see the point, unnecessary admin but you are suppose to do it ! It asks you to put your name and start and end dates. You could write anything so not sure of the point of it! Just to let you know, the text on my paper info card was in English - including the names of the places, not having the French on there too was confusing (for example Museum of Fine Arts, in French is Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon).

Overall, easy useful card, especially if you want to do museums and attractions as well.

(I hope you put this review online/ make the changes, that would be amazing!!)

Excellent value, BUT 24/48 hours not being a straight 24/48 hours is a very big disadvantage

Recommended by ,

The Lyon City Card represents excellent value and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting the city. I would also recommend that they carefully plan their itinerary as there is a lot to see and a lot included with the ticket! However, a huge disadvantage for me, and something which I feel hugely detracts from the card, is the procedure of 24 or 48 hours being counted in 'full days' rather than actual hours. My travel arrangements were this: I arrived in Lyon at approximately 4pm on a Friday and left at 1.30pm on a Sunday. The 48 hour card, given that it was only a few Euros more than the 24 hour one, made more sense for me. However, I had to make the choice between using it on Friday (which would help me get acquainted with the city) or on the Sunday morning when I'd have a little more familiarity with the city and had more time. This was not an easy choice to make and I'm still not sure I made the right one. In my opinion, given that people are now able to arrive and depart in a big city like Lyon at virtually any time of the day or night (and I'm sure you would agree that 4pm and 1.30pm are not particularly odd or unsocial hours), it would make more sense to have cards operational for a consecutive 24 or 48 hours from first use. I realise that this may cause problems with the transport network, but I know that 24 and 48 hour tickets on TCL are valid for 24/48 hours from first use, so there doesn't seem a logical reason why this couldn't also apply to the Lyon City Card.

Apart from this, however, I very much enjoyed my stay in Lyon and would like to return. The people were friendly and there was a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. I loved it!

We purchased the 3 day Lyon city cards with the Rhone Express return on the online website .
It saved us money and it was really worth it.
But you need to go to the information counter in the airport (no obvious sign directions indicating the LYON City Card counter ) to collect your cards and the return train tickets wit your voucher !
The staff were friendly and the tickets were then printed out.
However the bad thing was: the validity period (not printed on the cards ) for the musuem visits and for the public transport it was clear for three days only.
We travelled for 3 days on all public transport . It was very convenient with the card.
For the other days, just buy the public transport ticket at any of the ticketing machines.
The visits to the musuems were all free , no additional charges and very convenient.
The Rhone express was punctual and fast. Usually some seats are available and you do not have to stand in the train.
All in all, recommend to buy it online and asked about the validity period for the musuem visits.

Hello,

We recently had an excellent trip to Lyon! Prior to picking up our Lyon City Cards, we met with our Greeter, Jean Pierre Dufour. We realized too late that we should have ordered the cards early, as it would have saved us a few euros on the day passes we got for our tour with Jean Pierre. This was a mis-step on our part, and it did not diminish our experience at all. Even with paying the little extra for the day passes, the City Cards were still an excellent value!

Jean Pierre gave us an extensive walking (and riding) tour of the city, which was exceptional! He helped us to feel very comfortable with the metro, funicular and bus systems - while sharing extensive historical knowledge with us re. Fourviere, Vieux Lyon, and Croix Rousse. Jean Pierre was an excellent guide for the many traboulles he showed us throughout Vieux Lyon and Croix Rousse. On Jean Pierre's recommendation, we tried local foods and we visited the Opera House two nights in a row for their free Jazz series.

After leaving Jean Pierre, we continued to use our city card for the remainder of the day and the next. We used transportation to fit in visits to the Fine Arts, Gadagne, Miniatures, Lumiere, and Contemporary Arts museums. And, we fit in the Guided City Boat tour as well.

We had a fantastic trip, and we will highly recommend this experience to anyone who asks.

Many thanks!

Only had a one day pass but used it on the Metro,Funicular, boat trip & Museum. Very convenient.

However, had to go to Bellecour Tourist Office to collect it because the quoted time to deliver it to my house was ridiculously long...a week, not 2-3 weeks should have been enough time.

I used the Lyon City Card to visit 6 museums, do two tours (one on foot and one by tram) and used public transport for free for two days for 30 Euros! If you think about going to Lyon and want to visit a few museums and art galleries, you should really get this card. A tour by boat is also available but I did not take it due to timing. The card is great and very useful.

It's easy to use and almost everything is included if you want it. Also the return trip to the Airport can be arranged. Pity this card is only valid on specific dates, 1, 2 or 3 days. NOT 24, 48 or 72 hours. This makes a huge difference if you stay for 2,3 or 4 days. On your last day you can't use the card for public transport. A big disappointment with this card. Other city cards in France don't have this restriction? Lyon, get upgraded to a better system!

Works fine and easy to order online and collect from the welcome desk at the airport. We got good value from our 3 day card. However, it is bad that it covers whole days rather than a 72 hour period: many visitors are likely to arrive in the afternoon/evening.

The Lyon City Card makes sightseeing in Lyon easy - transportation on the funiculars, bus and metro, museum admissions, a walking tour of the old town, and more are all included, and there are bonus items, like a discount on a wifi device so you can have wifi access wherever you go in Lyon. I felt it was a good value and enabled me to do what I wanted easily. Some tourist cards only have some sights included, and you have to plan more diligently in order to get the full value, but the Lyon card covered every museum in town, so there was more flexibility in scheduling my time. I enjoyed the walking tour quite a bit - I am not usually a fan of large group tours but the information was fascinating and I certainly came away with a better understanding of the history of Lyon.

The card ran out after 2 1/2 days. 3 days should mean 72 hours as otherwise, with trains arriving at lunchtime, you lose half a day. Also it should be possible to pick up the card at the train station, not having to fight ones way through security checks - yet again - at the shopping centre. Here a Lyon City Card sign would be helpful too! The whole city is in fact lacking in signage for visitors. The printed information is inadequate with the card too. We needed a bus map as well as museum opening times, not just a promotional booklet for guided tours.

The best surprise was walking into the miniatures and cinema display in Vieux Lyon, because it was covered by the card, and being totally enchanted by evening in there. For me, the best part was that the city card also served as our pass for the city bike share program, called Velo 'v. We rode all over town for three days, for a total of 3 euros each. It was really useful to have the card – we used all different forms of transport and visited lots of different sites and museums. It was very convenient not to have to worry about finding cash for entry charges. The only slightly odd thing was that we had ordered them in advance to collect at the airport, and they seemed to have no system in place for collection. In fact, they seemed quite surprised to be asked. This was the only unusual thing.

Recommended by Ulrich, 20 November 2016

The Lyon City Card is a very good option for sight-seeing and reasonably priced. Since you can visit almost every museum for free, you will certainly also visit places you had not planned to visit initially - so you discover many new things. It would be even better to include the public transport not only on a "day-basis" but liked to "24 hours" distributed over two days which is certainly more useful. Altogether an excellent City Card!

We spent 3 days in Lyon and found the city card a real asset. There is so much to see and do in Lyon and the card helped us to fit in as much as posiible whilst making it inexpensive. I have bought city cards in other European cities to find that entrance to museums and galleries is not free but discounted and many of the main attractions are not covered by the card. The Lyon city card gave us free entry to all the major sites, great access on the transport system and one of the highlights was the boat tour. I would highly recommend buying the Lyon City Card.

The materials provided with the card were very clear about what was covered by the card and helped me determine what I wanted to see in the city. The price of the card was very reasonable - I definitely saved money using the card rather than paying for each attraction/transit/etc separately. Overall I had a very positive exprience using the city card.

This is the second time I have bought and used a Lyon City Card, the first one was on my last visit to Lyon two years ago. I had a 3 day Lyon City Card and besides having unlimited use of all the public transport system, including the funicular, I also took a hour and half open-top bus tour of Lyon, a guided walking tour of the Old Town in English and spent time in the beautiful museum of fine art, all without any extra cost. I could have also gone to numerous other museums (which I did on my last visit 2 years ago). This is a fantastic way to see this wonderful city and I had already got my money back by just the 2 tours. I definitely would recommend anyone who is visiting the city and planning to travel around and go on tours or visit museums to buy one. There is so much to see and do in Lyon, you need to come several times to do it all!

Rhone Express issues

Recommended by Nicholas Lloyd, 18 November 2016

I took 26 staff to Lyon in September and bought the Lyon card with the Rhone Express add-on. When the cards arrived there were no instructions regarding how the cards should be validated. I was surprised that when we boarded the train there was no machine to validate the tickets and the train assistant refused to accept the card even though it said Rhone Express on the card. It was only when I could prove that I had a receipt stating 'including airport transfer' and that the monies had left my bank account that she allowed us to continue travelling. The same thing happened on the way back to the airport. It was only when I returned home and went online that I found a note about validating the tickets in some hidden part of the airport. If I had done this it would have taken longer than if I had bought the tickets at the airport station and therefore there was no point in adding these onto the standard Lyon card beforehand. If you are to continue to offer this as an add-on, you must have validation machines on the trains, as you do on the trams. Once in Lyon centre, the cards were great.

Moreover, the card was very easy to get and use. The stuff in the tourist office were very friendly and ready to help. I enjoyed my staying in Lyon. Thanks a lot!

Recommended by Julie, 18 November 2016

We found our Lyon City Cards very useful during the first few days of our visit to Lyon. I ordered them online and collected them at the Office de Tourisme in Lyon. We researched the options in advance, so already had a good idea what we would use the cards for and that we would definitely save some money by having them. We used them for a river cruise, the city tram, the silk workers museum, the printing museum, the Lumiere museum, the funicular railway and the metro. Knowing that they were only valid for 3 days made us plan activities for each day, which saved the usual dithering about where to go and what to see first. The option to use on public transport helped us to familiarise ourselves with the system, so we were able to navigate our way around with confidence on later days. I'd recommend the Lyon City Card to travellers, as long as you plan in advance to ensure that you make the most of it.

We had a splendid weekend in Lyon to celebrate my wife's birthday. The Lyon Card was great value for money. While we got around on foot the travel was easy when we needed it with trams, metro and buses and of course the trip on the river. There is an amazing selection of museums, which accept the Lyon City Card. There are more to return to, which we did not get to. We saw museums of cinema, automata, fine arts, the history of the city, puppets, silk weaving and also we saw Roman ampitheatres and a magnificent cathedral.....a great place to visit. The food is very special from a meal on arrival and on departure at market in Le Part Dieu as well as the typical little Lyon eating places. Don't wait, book and buy your Lyon City Card

Excellent scheme

Recommended by Paul, 18 November 2016

My wife and I used the Lyon City Card in summer 2016, and found it very useful. My wife has mobility problems, so buying tickets for each journey would have been a nuisance. The opportunity to use the card to visit museums and take a bus or boat tour at reduced rates was very welcome. In a fair-sized city, we also found it useful to use the card listings to narrow down the many museum options, and although we didn't ignore any museums we were interested in that were not on the scheme, the reductions in entry prices definitely made us consider those museums that were listed. Finally, and not related to the card itself, we found the mobility access for public transport in Lyon amazing - lifts (elevators for our US friends !) and raised tram platforms made the whole system fully accessible. Thank you.

It was a wonderful experience, worth its money, simply a bargain. Very recommendable for such a wonderful city.

This is the best City Card we have ever used. Access to all the important sites, great value discounts and best of all, easy access to all transport.

We truly enjoyed our stay in Lyon. We made good use of the City Card both to visit a few museums, and to use public transportation. Found it very easy to mave around the city.

The ability to use the LCC on all modes opf transfer in Lyon, together with the free access to museums etc, plus the discounts available with the card make this a necessity for all tavellers to Lyon

Exceptional value at approx 13 Euro each per day . Easy to use - just swipe card ! BUT collection point at Part Dieu shopping center did not have English version , or maps or Timetables and routes . Wasted time looking for Lyon City Transport office ( to left,OUTSIDE main entrance of Part Dieu Rail Station ) to exchange for English copy and full information . Once in our possession - three full non-stop days around the wonderful city of Lyon

Usability

Recommended by Carl W., 23 May 2016

I took the Lyon Card including the Airport transfer. What I Iiked most: the airport transfer is completely independent from the Lyon card usage. And: the clock for the museums and public traffic runs independently as well. So you can start on day 1 with the museums (which starts the 72 hour clock for events) and on day 2 with public traffic (which starts the 3 day clock for transport) - really comfortable if your hotel is located in the city center and you don't need public traffic for your first visits.

A 'must have' for visiting Lyon.

Recommended by Paul, 15 May 2016

We had bought, on line prior to our arrival, a 3 day Lyon card for the period spanning the 2 European Rugby Finals and collected it from the Tourist Office in the SE corner of Place Bellecour. We soon discovered that Lyon taxis were expensive and difficult to find. As our hotel was actually in Bron, the Lyon card was perfect for travelling to the centre of the city and across to the old city. We used it on the metro, trams and even the funicular up to Fourviere and St Just to the Roman Ruins of Lugdunum. The boat ride, included in the card, from Quai des Celestins round the confluence of the Saone and Rhone to the Pont de la Guillotier and back gave a splendid view of the city from the water. Overall a very useful card.

Useful and easy

Recommended by Laura, 10 May 2016

I really enjoyed the activities with the LyonCard. We visited places which we would not really know without the information of the Card. A highlight was the bicycle rent. Unfortunately we recognised it on the last day of the three days we had with the card, so we did a lot of walking the first two days :)

Good value for money

Recommended by Els M, 05 April 2016

If you are planning to visit a fee museums, it is worth the wile. It is also a Travel card, so you van jump on andere off trams, buses and metro as of ten as you want. One small minus is that the card lasts for e.g. 72 jours, but the Travel card only for three consecutive days.

All Good

It was great value for money. We travelled to Lyon with our children and purchased the three-day card. We enjoyed unlimited free transport, we visited the most important museums and had fun on the city bus tour.

Nice card

Recommended by Dan, 18 March 2016

The card is easy to use and covers all the things I want to do in Lyon. You should get one!

Excellent value for money

Recommended by Ann, 17 March 2016

We pre-booked the card then picked it up at the Welcome desk at Lyon airport. The staff there explained everything about the card plus let us know the best way to find our hotel. We used the card to get free entry into lots of museums each day plus used free public transport. An added bonus was a free tour on the City Bus Tour, an excellent start to our trip. Only 3 days but we had a great visit to Lyon made special with the Lyon City Card! We recommend all Lyon visitors to buy this card.

We, a couple from Germany, for 4 days in Lyon, bought a Lyon City Card for each of us and really enjoyed our stay using it. We visited several museums did a guided tour and used public transport including funiculaire and vaporetto. We want to come back to Lyon in summer and will buy this card again. Sorry, my English is much better than my French, I'll try to improve...

Holiday

Recommended by Sherry, 12 November 2015

On the second day of our 2-day card, most of the museums we wanted to see we're closed due to a holiday we knew nothing about. We enjoyed the audio guide on the first day except it was not easy to follow and several times the passages had locked doors. On 1 street, there were 2 places with the number we were looking for so we almost missed a very interesting part of the walk. A bit more written description of the places to find would help.

Visit to Lyon October 2015

Recommended by Alan Lord, 01 November 2015

My wife and I visited Lyon by Eurostar from London at the end of October 2015. We stayed for 4 nights and bought 3 day Lyon Cards on line before we arrived. They were very good investments. The cards made our stay in the lovely city of Lyon easy and very interesting. We used the card extensively: for travel around the city; for two excellent guided walks in English and for entry to several first rate museums and art galleries. I would certainly recommend the Lyon Card for its ease of use and its extremely good value.

Excellent deal!

Recommended by Matthew Piette, 27 October 2015

We purchased the two day Lyon City Card and t worked out great for us. The card easily paid for itself on the first day. I highly recommend it to anyone planning to visit Lyon.

More information needed.

Recommended by Shirley, 21 October 2015

We found the Lyon CityCard excellent for moving around Lyon using the public transport, but we were disappointed to find that when we arrived to collect the card from the tourist office, we were unable to use the card to book any river trips or escorted tours as they were already booked out. We had waited to book so that we could take advantage of the discounts offered, but there were no places available. It needs to be stated clearly that you can book ahead but I don't know how you book without having to pay up front. That is not clear. We had also booked a Lyon City Greeter tour and until we had confirmation of when that would be, we were unsure when we should try to book the other tours. However we arrived in Lyon and still no word from the Lyon City Greeters. After enquiring at the Tourist office, we received word that the LCG were not able to accommodate us. It was disappointing that we were not notified earlier. However, we loved Lyon despite these setbacks.

Great idea, could be better

Recommended by Shirley, 10 October 2015

Free train travel was great, it was a 24 hour period which is important (rather than "per day"). Very disappointed there was no English speaking tour available on the day, we were advised that the audio guide was just as good. However, it was extremely difficult to follow, the written directions did not match the audio stops, and confusing audio directions were too quick to follow. The map provided was not aligned to the stops on the walking tour either. The boat cruise was lovely but the guide's English commentary was too quick and hard to follow.

very convenient

Recommended by mousemo, 09 October 2015

Made good use of the card, worth it. Only wish it could be used to go to the airport.

A great way to experience Lyon

Recommended by Caro, 07 October 2015

We had two-day Lyon City Cards, and enjoyed using them. Two days wasn't really long enough to see as much of the city as we would have liked to, but we had a great time on the river cruise, exploring Fourviere and a bit of a walking tour of the city. It was great how everything, including the Lyon Metro access, was integrated in the one card (the Paris Pass has separate cards/passes for the Metro, museums and attractions, the Lyon City Card is more convenient to use)

Lyon City Card Feedback

Recommended by Peter Rawbone - Customer : 1507291323005264, 21 September 2015

I purchased the cards in July and during our visit last week attempted to use them in Croix Rousse only to discover that they did not work. We went to your offices in Bellecour in the afternoon and the nice lady advised that they were empty! I explained that they had not been used and she eventually replaced them. However, we had lost their use for half a day and I was was disappointed to learn in the morning two days later when getting on a C3 bus in Vieux Lyon, that they could not be used as they had expired.

The whole operation is extremely efficient from the web based purchasing , the collection and the use in museums. All woeks well. Having the card available for public transport is wonderful. The maps which acompany it are great. Excellent value. Well done Lyon.

perfect card to discover lyon

Recommended by madelon, 23 August 2015

If you are new to Lyon, this is the perfect way to discover the city. Especially in combination with velo'v. We went around a lot by bike and public transportation. Take the funiculair, and hop in and out museums. And be sure to book one of the guided tours. We took the "vieux lyon" tour and the fourviere tour, a great way to learn about the city and see the most beautiful sites. Highly recommended. All inlcuded in the city card.

Fabulous deal and a great city

Recommended by Lynn from nebraska, 01 August 2015

We have used city passes in Europe and the US, and we believe that Lyon's is the best value yet! The museums were excellent (more than we could visit in 3 days!) and the metro system (which is included in the city pass) was easy and excellent. The boat tour was great also. We have fallen in love with Lyon, thanks in part to the city pass which made everything easy to see!

In General Positive with One Suggestion

Recommended by Francis Facciolo, 18 July 2015

My only suggestion is that the card provide unlimited visits to any museum within the 2 or 3 day period. Sometimes, a museum can be too much for one visit.

We had a great time!

Recommended by Edith, 07 July 2015

We had a fabulous time in Lyon, thanks in no small part to the help we got at the tourist office, the great city card program, and the kind people we encountered throughout the city, especially our Airbnb host. While Lyon is so much more than a tourism city, it was so clear that the city valued its visitors dearly.

Lyon Card

A very good idea when we decided to buy the Lyon Card, it is very practical and in the end cheap as we can go with all means of transport and see all the touristical atractions for free

Good Value

I found the card easy to obtain at the airport, having ordered it on line. It saved a lot of mucking about with tickets on a day to day basis The Map was very good with the various modes of transport

Perfect!

Recommended by Vera, 08 June 2015

I am pretty satisfied with the card. It's very convenient and definitely saves money. Three days card helps to make the stay in Lyon unforgettable: several museums, guided tours, boat trips. Special thanks to the guides: they are really good. And Old Lyon tour is just incredible! P.S. Free public transport makes the trip even more convenient.

Transport

Recommended by Darren Llewellyn, 01 June 2015

It is not very clear about the transport inclusion on the card. I only noticed transport was included from the banner images - one of them had a callout that stated transport was included. Also, accessing transport maps is VERY difficult. Needs to be PDF that are very easy to find - the transport website is very bad, especially if you do not know where you are leaving and going to. A map of train, tram and bus routes in 3 documents would be excellent (like every other city we are travelling to have done).

excellent value

Recommended by gary stott, 29 May 2015

found the citycard to be an ideal tool for exploring lyon, transport easy to negotiate and museums excellent, also recommend the boat ride to see a bit more.

Great Value

Recommended by Paul K, 11 May 2015

We bought the 3-day card online before leaving home. Pick up was easy from the Office de Tourisme and it was convenient to use. We certainly got our money's worth visiting 11 museums and using the metro, tramway and both funiculars. In addition to that we used it to buy the reduced 3 day Vélo'v ticket which was so easy to use. I really felt we made the most of our card. Thanks Lyon

Mondays

Recommended by JJ, 05 May 2015

Lots of options were available to us on other days of the week, but It seems that many of the attractions are closed on Mondays, which we had not appreciated until we arrived. All in all though, this card is well worth purchasing, especially for the access to public transport, which is so convenient and easy to use.

Highly recommend the card

Recommended by Jeremy, 02 May 2015

The city card is a great idea. Everything covered by one card, museums, transport including boat trips, and great value for money. Enough said!

the way to see lyon

Recommended by david, 27 April 2015

The card is an excellent way to get around Lyon, you can probably save the cost of the card just by using it to access the transport system. You also get a boat trip and access to various exhibits, the fine arts museum is a must.

A must for museum lovers!

Recommended by lingwang, 03 April 2015

The Lyon City Card is really practical for museum lovers and all those who want to make good use of public transportation to save time while moving among attractions. Ownership of the Card also encourages one to visit some less popular but no less interesting museums. It is a pity that we stayed in Lyon for 3 days but failed to visit all the major museums. However, we encountered a small problem (technical perhaps?) while visiting the newly opened Musee des Confluences. Our Cards were bought a few months prior to our visit in Lyon, and one of the two Cards did not work normally for this museum (both Cards worked fine in other museums and on metro/tram). The museum personnel tried several times and let us enter after contacting with other personnel (we would like to thank her for the help). Hopefully such problem would not recur and all Cards function normally.

Rainy Lyon = Lots of Museums

Recommended by Schuhart, Anna, 15 February 2015

This card is great for all the transport it provides in addition to the museums and sights. Staff at the turism office were very helpful. The translation for the sell guided walks handout in English needs some work. In the silk walk area, we got lost. Directions need to be more cohesive. We had rain so visited a number of museums. The shop at the textile museum is top notch for scarves and the museum of resistance and deportation was very informative. Wish the movies there could be seen in English. Our loss. Definitely recommend the city card. A good value.

Bravo !!

Recommended by The Tray, 29 January 2015

We were really impressed with the value and variety of uses of the Lyon City Card. Right from the smooth pick up at Lyon Airport, the ease of use in the Lyon transport system and the recognition of the benefits of the card at the various attractions/tours in the City meant that our experiences were all of a very high standard. Well done to Lyon Tourism and their friendly and informative staff !!

We probably just about recovered the cost of the card. We focused on the Old Town and mainly walked. We were there on a Monday when most museums were shut. As we were there for four days we could not use the Card for travel to/from the airport. However, overall it was just about worth having for convenience.

We were in Lyon only for one day. we stop by tourism counter at the airport and staff are very friendly. We took the tour from downtown office. Everyone visiting Lyon should stop by the tourism first, they offer very helpful information and the card good value.

Excellent 4 day stay in Lyon

Recommended by East London couple, 18 July 2014

We really enjoyed our stay in Lyon. We purchased the 3 day Lyon City card over the internet giving us a saving. Card provided us with transport tickets. We particularly enjoyed the range of museums and galleries all free with the card. We enjoyed the Boat trip on the Rhone. We also took advantage of the free daily guided walks which were well delivered and extremely informative.

Lyon City Card 3 days

Recommended by Jordi, 24 June 2014

Lyon city card for 3 days is very useful if you are planning to visit 3 or more museums and you are gonna move around the city using the public transport (highly recommendable). In our case it included the Biennale of modern art, because we stayed in December. A guignol cristhmas show (for kids) was also included. From another hand, you should ask for the detailed timetable of the museums. We didn't get noticed that some museums were closed on Mondays and we missed some of them.

Great employees

Recommended by R.R., 13 June 2014

The employee was extremely friendly and helpful. She took a lot of time explaining the Lyon Cit card and how to get the best use of it.

LCCard - the best for activs tourists!

Recommended by Varia, 12 June 2014

We bought a card for 3 days for 82 euros for two, but if we do not buy, it would spend 115 euros! I think it is quite beneficial, although this card does not work in all the interesting museums.

Great experience

Recommended by James T., 02 June 2014

The staff was friendly and had great materials. The one improvement is that the audio guide was accompanied by directions that were impossible to follow. Better solution is to just put corresponding numbers for audio presentation on a map. That would make it easier to find.

Good overall value for many tourism options

Recommended by Karen, 10 May 2014

We purchased the 3 day city card because we were going to spend several days in Lyon. We thought that the card would enable us to see many more museums and take advantage of the beautiful transportation system, as well as a river tour. We walked a lot and used the subway system, which was very nice and clean. We think that we got our money's worth.
